Church

For those who have far too much interest in the daily affairs of the Burns… well, thanks for visiting. I’m sure you’ll enjoy visiting the website of the church we visited while in Orlando last weekend (www.summitconnect.org ).

That is all…

Well, not entirely… I must admit that I really wish I had the opportunity to write more. It has been a joy over the past two years to be able to express myself through the written word. I hope that my efforts have not totally been self indulgent, but that they have served you with insight into life, theology, family, and of course, the quest for the perfect coffee mug.

Sometimes I wish I had more profound things to offer you… but, sad to say, the profundities only come in spurts. So, in betwixt, I shall continue with the random and occasional non-nonsensical post… like with links to the church I visited on Sunday.

Until the next post…

The Vinegar Lady

Previously I posted about how I use baking soda instead of shampoo & vinegar in lieu of conditioner. Just to update ya’ll: The claim that the vinegar smell evaporates is all lies. I walked around as the vinegar lady for weeks before I finally asked ryan & low & behold, yes, my hair smelled like vinegar even hours after washing. I appreciate ryan’s support of my weirdness in that he didn’t offer the information before I asked (I assume he must’ve thought I knew), but wow. Sorry ryan. How attractive is that? “Wow, what perfume are you wearing? MMM…smells like pickles…”

So on the hunt for an affordable conditioner not filled with gross stuff. In the meantime, using gross stuff sparingly. I have heard that apple-cider vinegar leaves a pleasant smell but i’m now wary…..

So many things to blog…

Oh, I just don’t have the time…

In short:

  • Wonder how I fill my days? Well, I recently took a position as Director of Key Holder Services for VitalKey. The VitalKey is really cool. I highly recommend it. The new website was just lunched today.
  • I went to the apple store the other day and played with the iPhone. After 3 minutes I was sold. I’m counting down the days until our Sprint contract expires. Oh, and if you go to an apple store, the phone are live, so you can actually make calls… I called Jenn and my brother Devin. Very fun.
  • Speaking of apple… They released the new iMac. Oh… sheesh… My iMac now has iMac-envy.
  • We are putting our house on the market next week. So, if you want to buy it, let us know.
  • I need to make a list of things to do to prepare for our Orlando move. Topping the list is calling my grandmother which I keep forgetting to do.

On that note… off to call Grandmother.

The world inside my head

Inside my head there are primarily 2 worlds that have over time learned to co-exist peacefully. There is “dream world” & “crashing down reality” world. There are things I think about or desire that most would consider “dream world” (for example, my dream of a commune-like farm where most everything we eat is grown/raised) & then “crashing down reality world” (seriously jenn, you’re not a farmer & a commune….really?). Then “Actual Reality” usually lands somewhere in between (we currently buy many foodstuffs from actual farms), and I’m not bothered either way it ends up, since I’ve already come up with extremes of either scenario & feel prepared. Another good example: Ryan says he will be home in 5 minutes. Dream World: He comes home in 3 minutes Crashing down reality world: He comes home in 2-3 hours Actual Reality: He comes home in 45min. & as far as I’m concerned, right on time.

So the latest “dream vs. reality” battle raging, that I’m pretty excited about:

During our Orlando visit this past weekend we discovered that when one spouse attends RTS full time, the other can go for FREE. Not audit folks, but do for real classes (& work) & get a for real degree. Crazyness. So: Dream World: “me too, me too! We will find a way” Crashing Down reality world: “Even ryan won’t be able to finish & we’ll leave orlando with our tails between our legs”. No idea what Actual Reality world will provide, but I am prepared for all of the above & would be ecstatic with anything in between.

or land oh

or land oh where to begin… So much to catch up on… Here is the gist:

Weekend + Orlando = Amazing

Brother + Sister-in-law = Amazing x 2

New Job – Old Job = Kind of Sad + Kind of Fun

RTS x Four Year = Daunting + Exciting

Scooter + Me + Uneven Brick Road – Much Experience = Fun + Scary

Church + Great Coffee + Emo Rock Worship = A Refreshing Change

Orlando + Lots of Houses for Sale + High Prices – Having Money = A Challenge

Home + Kids + Us = Happy x A Really Big Number

Sacrifice

Somewhat piggy-backing on my last post, here’s a quote from “Sacred Parenting” from the chapter on Sacrifice:

…fathers who talk to their children don’t have twenty-eight hours as opposed to silent dads who have just twenty-four. It’s all about where we choose to spend our hours and what we will willingly sacrifice in order to free up some of those hours.

And here sums up the biggest thing my kids are teaching me thus far:

“When I was about to become a father, my friend Burgess Meredith said, “Your’e gonna find something wonderful – someone you love more than yourself.” For self-centered people, it’s a great blessing.”
