I am profoundly interested in the fact that Asher would refer to this man as “Opa.” Do you all have a close tie to your European heritage?
no, ‘Opa’ is retired Army, so my (jenn) family lived in Germany a few times over the years, where the idea was picked up for “oma & opa”. Though we (jenn) do have some German heritage. My older sister is the one who started it with her kids though, so i can’t take credit for it.
Ah okay. My family is of Dutch background, and both sets of grandparents immigrated from there in the ’50s and ’70s. So we always refer to them as Oma and Opa as well. I just thought it was interesting.
