  1. I am profoundly interested in the fact that Asher would refer to this man as “Opa.” Do you all have a close tie to your European heritage?

  2. no, ‘Opa’ is retired Army, so my (jenn) family lived in Germany a few times over the years, where the idea was picked up for “oma & opa”. Though we (jenn) do have some German heritage. My older sister is the one who started it with her kids though, so i can’t take credit for it. :)

  3. Ah okay. My family is of Dutch background, and both sets of grandparents immigrated from there in the ’50s and ’70s. So we always refer to them as Oma and Opa as well. I just thought it was interesting. :)
