Logos Company Picnic

On Saturday the Burns family (and the 170+ employees of Logos and their families) headed out to Hovander Park for the annual Logos company picnic. It was an afternoon of food, fun, friends, and more food. From the climbing wall to, to bouncy house, to the sadistic bungee run, we all had a an absolutely wonderful afternoon. Thanks Logos!

Below is a slide show from the day. You can also view the pics on flickr.

I Don’t Like Berries

I’m not sure what it is, but I’ve never liked berries. I think it is a texture thing, but not really sure.

Despite my dislike, we went and picked about 17 pounds of raspberries this afternoon. In case you didn’t know, Whatcom county (the county we live in) produces about 75% of the United State’s raspberries. Cool, huh?

So, it was a lot of fun and I managed to snap some really good pics. Click the picture below to see the sideshow on flickr.

Asher and the Raspberries

Gone Fishin’

For Father’s Day I was given 3 fishing rods… oddly enough, one of the rods was a Star Wars rod and one was a Princess rod. Thankfully I have a son who loves Star Wars and a daughter who is a princess. Today we finally went out to give the new gear a try (granted, Asher has been casting in the back yard for weeks).

Despite our best efforts we were unable to catch fish. Asher had a couple nibbles, but most likely some minnows grabbing the worm. Jennifer, on the other hand, managed to catch a baby duck… and yes, it was a bad as it sounds. The little guy snagged the worm as she was reeling it in. I rushed over and pulled it in to the dock. Thankfully we had some friends with us who could help. I held the duck as Eric, a seasoned fisherman, managed to get the hook out of its bill.

You can view a short sideshow of our pics here… and no, there aren’t any of the duck incident.

Photo re-cap of OTP

Decided to go with one long consolidated photo post.

Turkey hiding in the brine.  Very pretty!

Night-Night Turkey.  I honestly have no idea where the side dishes are sleeping.  Maybe the pot can go on the back porch?

I’m a sucker…saw this & almost immediately put it in my cart

And since we never have apple juice around I “had” to buy these too:

Lunchin’ it.  This is why Grace always gets the “uber-bib” (hooded infant towel with hole cut in it):

Oh yeah, MY “office”:

Corn Bread turned out GREAT.  not so great that I forgot to do it onto the cooling rack.

ahh that’s better.

oh & the skillet turned out GREAT too. whew (btw this was a $10 cast-iron from target bought a few months ago).

The boy child emerged.  I put him to work sopping water off the thawed green beans.  He did his best “monk” impression (the show, not the clergy)…wouldn’t let me have the beans back till the paper towel was completely “dry spot” free.

my photo of the finished green beans (well…they’ll get topped tomorrow):

But it would appear asher has a better eye for composition than his mother:

I failed to take pictures of the mayhem that awaits my attention downstairs.  Think we’ll play together up here a bit, then more tv time while i clean up the kitchen & heat up dinner.

and i’m still not sure where the prepped food is going tonight.  Think i might leave that up to the professional organizer of the house…

Picture Time

I’m going to be lazy & throw unrelated recent pictures into one post.

The kids “helping” me clean up after helping make pizza dough earlier this week (they splashed in the sink while i got everything cleaned up & put away).

Asher “reading” to Grace.  He does this almost every morning while I clean up breakfast.  He’s actually been learning to read lately & this week i overheard him ACTUALLY reading “hop on pop” to her (sounding out the words he knows how to figure out..which were more than i expected).  Super cute.

Same day, that evening, the kids vegging while i get dinner going.  This is Grace’s recent “tv position”.  Then band aid was leftover from naptime, she has to wear it while sleeping as she scrapes her nose while sucking her thumb.  Regardless of how short i cut her nails.  annoying.

and finally a pic of the kids playing together while we were babysitting the Pell boys (Luke (older) & Jack).  They had lots of fun.  My kids whined awhile this morning when they realized they weren’t still here.  :)   Unfortunately this was the best shot I was able to get.

Happy 8

8 years ago today, these two crazy kids got married. 8 years, 4 states, 7 cars, 2 kids, 2 dog (one of which peed on our Christmas tree), 2 or 3 fish, 1 cat, 10 jobs, 7 homes, and countless friends.

(I intended to post this picture this morning, but had computer issues… Alas, better late than never)

Halloween Pics

For Halloween we went to the church down the street.  They were having “trunk-or-treat” which means a lot of cars with candy in the parking lot.  Along with that, they had lots of games inside.  It was CRAZY crowded.  We had a pretty good time, however Grace won the uber-melt-down award for the evening when we tried to leave.

For the evening, Asher was a Roman soldier and Grace was a Unicorn (flying one, of course).  Here are the pics. Oh, and there aren’t a lot of them because the chaos of the night was not conducive to quality photography. However, here are a couple for you to see:
