Nailed to a cross

“And YOU, who were DEAD in you trespasses and the uncircumcisions of your flesh, GOD MADE ALIVE together with Christ, having forgiven all our trespasses, by CANCELING THE RECORD OF DEBT that stood against us with its LEGAL DEMANDS. This he set aside, NAILING IT TO THE CROSS.”

Colossians 2:13-14 (emphasis mine)

This brought me comfort this morning as I was reminded that I can’t work my way into God’s favor. You can’t be good enough, give enough money, pray enough, go to church enough, not cuss enough, be honest enough, be nice enough, be kind enough, be moral enough, to cancel the record of debt and its legal demands against you. It requires God nailing it to the cross. Jesus lived the life you are required to live and died the death you deserve to die in order that you might be made right with God. Friends, family, and strangers… believe this good news.
